| Hawaii,
often called "Big Island," is the largest and youngest in the Hawaiian chain.
It's also growing everyday, as lava flows to the sea from still active volcanoes.
Hawaii is unique in many other ways and, here, you'll find the most varied
landscape - from snow- covered mountains to beautiful orchid fields to forests.
The island is also known as the cradle of Hawaiian -- culture and the birth
place of King Kamehameha I, who first united the islands under his rule
in the early 1800s. There is a wealth of important historic sites such as
the Place of Refuge, petroglyph fields, Captain Cook monument, and Hulihee
Palace. Hawaii's diversity can be seen in its variety of activities, as
well. World-class deep-sea fishing is a big draw to the "Big Island," as
are golf, hunting, diving, skiing, tours of Volcanoes National Park, hiking,
four-wheeling, and much more. Hawaii is a land of mystery and majesty forged
of fire and ice. |
